Libby Nelson began her dance career at age nine. Originally the idea to take a dance class came from her mother, but Nelson independently developed a life-altering joy for dance. During her childhood, she learned clogging, ballroom and Irish step. She went on to master other dance genres in later years.
Armed with the desire to make dance a permanent part of her life, Nelson came to BYU–Idaho as a dance major. Nelson auditioned for and was accepted to the BYU–Idaho Collegiate World Dance Team.
"If you have any interest in dance, BYU–Idaho is such a wonderful start,” Nelson said.
After three semesters on the team, Nelson reflected on the opportunities and experiences she gained by being a member of Collegiate. Expanding dance experience, establishing relationships with fellow dancers and teaching dance workshops are only a few ways in which Nelson grew while on the team.
“I am on the World Team, which gives me the opportunity to explore dance genres outside my country. It’s incredible. . . . Being on Collegiate has opened my eyes to the whole world of dance,” Nelson said.
