Students that brought their cars to the austin building were able to receive a free check on their brake and signal lights, fans and hoses,  tires, and suspension components.i even go the chance to interview tony barnes; chairman of the automotive association.

It takes about ten minutes, fifteen minutes, depends on if there is anything wrong with the vehicle. what well do is go through and check the fluids, all the oil, the transmission, the coolant, the washer fluid, anything that might need maintenence.  we check cv axles we check the tires for wear we check the breaks for wear. basically anything that needs to be maintained or replaced or if somethings obviously broken well make sure the customer knows about that. if their car has a check engine light on well plug in a scan for em and read codes for em and tell em whats wrong.  we do this once a semester, usually about 2/3 through a semester so people can know if their car needs repair or maintenance before they take off across the country to head home for the holidays.

Im getting my car inspected because its a good deal its completely free, and where else am i going to learn if my car has any problems that need to be fixed. plus its a great experience for the rest of the students here byu idaho is all about student learning and helping each other so they help me I help them its a win win.

  • I think it is amazing of the Automotive department to do this.  I like the timing as well; it is considerate of them to do it 2/3rd of the way though.  I feel good knowing that I can get it inspected for free, and because it is free, I feel I can trust what they say.

It is also incredibly wise of the department from a student perspective.  What better way to get their students real world experience than having them inspect real people's cars.  They are using t he tools of the trade to give them a huge head start on the competition.  This is truly the mission of BYU-I at work.
